The cycle of lectures of the Institute for Advanced Studies Balkanski-Panitza aims to present to the wide audience leading researchers from Bulgaria and abroad who work in various academic fields (humanitarian and social sciences, science, engineering). Among the lectors are distinct figures from the civil society, means of mass communication and business with respect to the education and science issues in Bulgaria. The lectures aim to bridge the different fields of the scientific knowledge and to contribute to the enrichment of the academic life in Bulgaria in accordance to the mission of the Institute.

Prof. Dr. Hristo Todorov is Deputy Rector of the New Bulgaria University. He graduated from the Philosophy Department at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. He has been a lecturer in History of Philosophy at Sofia University. Since 2003 he is Professor at the New Bulgarian University and from 2005 to 2012 was head of the Philosophy and Sociology Department at the same university. Prof. Todorov specialized in Tübingen, Bochum as fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. In 2001-2002 he was visiting professor at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt an der Oder, Germany. His research interests are in the areas of philosophical hermeneutics, philosophy of history, the history of concepts and bioethics. Prior to his election to the CAS Board of Trustees, Prof. Todorov was member of the CAS Academic Advisory Council.
